The Mercedes-Maybach GLS is the luxury-focused version of the GLS, built around rear-seat comfort rather than a third seating row. It was revealed in November 2019, and the facelifted version arrived in South Africa in 2024.

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that adds up to 16 kW for short periods. Drive goes to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic, and the V8 develops 410 kW.

The rear can be configured with a three-seat bench or with two individual seats, giving the car four or five seats in total, and buyers can add touches such as a champagne flute holder. Wheels of up to 23 inches are offered, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS on which it is based is listed by Mercedes-Benz South Africa as a separate model with seven seats.
