The EQS SUV is the sport-utility counterpart of the EQS electric sedan and one of two EQ-branded SUVs listed by Mercedes-Benz South Africa, alongside the EQE SUV. It was revealed in April 2022, is built in the United States and went on sale locally in September 2023.

The South African model is the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV, which has an electric motor on each axle. It is offered with five or seven seats; in the seven-seater, a third row for two people is reached through an EASY-ENTRY function on the second row.

The second row adjusts electrically, so rear legroom can be traded against boot space, and rear-axle steering is available to reduce the turning circle of what is a long vehicle. With the rear seats folded, the load area grows to 2,100 litres.

The South African range

  • EQS 450 4MATIC SUV: two electric motors, 265 kW and 800 Nm, all-wheel drive, five seats
  • EQS 450 4MATIC SUV seven-seater: the same drivetrain with a third row for two passengers
