The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series takes the SL roadster in a luxury direction. It was revealed in August 2024 and arrived in South Africa in May 2026.
It uses the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 as the Mercedes-AMG SL 63, driving all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic, but the tuning favours refinement: comfort-oriented suspension, softer engine mounts, a quieter exhaust and extra sound insulation. The V8 produces 430 kW and 800 Nm, and rear-axle steering is standard.
Where the AMG SL has small rear seats, the Maybach is a strict two-seater, with a leather-lined area behind the front seats under a pair of aerodynamic humps. The fabric roof carries a subtle Maybach pattern, and exterior details include an illuminated grille and rose-gold accents in the headlamps.
